Hotel Management, as the name suggests, is the art of managing a hotel. It is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. With people spending more and more money on their comfort, hospitality sector is soon to become the next big thing.

Hotel Management is mainly divided into these four main functions:
- Food Production
- Food and Beverage Service(F&B)
- Front Office
- Housekeeping
Food Production
Food production includes preparing food and designing dishes. Which in turn has three main parts:
- Bakery– which deals with breads, cakes, chocolates and confectionary items like candies.
- Specialty Kitchen- It includes the making of exclusive cuisines like Japanese, Thai, South Indian etc.
- Cold Section- It includes salads and delicatessen.
No one compromises on the quality and taste of their food especially the rich folks, thus chefs are paid a lot now-a-days. So if a person has an interest in cooking food then hemay have a bright future in Hotel Management.
Food and Beverage Service (F&B)
It involves the art of serving the guests with food and drinks. When it comes to serving the food, it is a very important factor in hotel management as a server has to deal with the guest during his/her meal. They have to work in sync with the chefs and should have all the necessary information about the food, to tackle any queries of the guest.
Front Office
As they say first impression is the last impression. The front office helps put the first impression on the guests. They take care of the meeting and greeting of the guest, organizing accommodation, taking reservations, managing check-in and check-out’, passing messages to the guests and settling accounts.
Housekeeping
Housekeeping is also an integral part of Hotel Management. The responsibility of this department is to keep the hotel rooms, lobbies and surroundings neat and clean.The overall comfort and an appealing environment for the guests is a must and the housekeeping department makes sure of that
Admission in Hotel Management Courses:
There are a lot of good institutes in India that offer Hotel Management courses. To get admission into a good university/college, you must clear an entrance test. National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT) conducts its Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for admissions in B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Management. Some of the top central and state universities give students admission on the basis of NCHMCT JEE. The exam will be conducted on 28th of April 2018 (tentative) and the application forms will be available starting from 24th December, 2017.
Eligibility criteria for NCHMCT JEE:
Age Limit:
Maximum age limit for General and OBC category students is 22 years as of 1st July 2018.
Maximum age limit for Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribe category students is 25 years as of 1st July 2018.
Qualification:
- The appearing student have passed 10+2 standard or its equivalent from any recognized board/ university.
- The student should have qualified the qualifying exam with English as one of the subjects.
- Students appearing for 10+2 or any equivalent exam is also eligible for NCHMCT JEE.
NCHMCT JEE Exam pattern:
The exam will be conducted in both online and offline mode.
The duration of the exam will be 3 hours.
NCHMCT JEE will be conducted in both English and Hindi.
200 questions will be asked in the exam, 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer and 0.25 marks will be deducted from the score in case of a wrong answer.
